Researching artist blogs 500 words

Researching artist blogs

The first blog I really found interesting was ‘Alex Noriega Sketch Blog’. Alex Noriega is a 30-year-old cartoonist from Barcelona. Alex uses his blog to show his illustrative drawings. The majorities of his drawings are linear and look quite simplistic but when you look closer you see how much detail he has actually been included in these sketches. Most of his sketches are monochrome, just black and white which makes these drawings very simplistic but they have texture, tone and shade which creates the detail. When Alex Noriega adds colour his colour pallet isn’t too strong and overpowering but quite neutral and soft, which is nice to the eyes. His layout in the entire blog is also like his drawings simple but it has all the information you need. I like the idea of a simple layout on the blog because then it draws attention to the images you have uploaded of your blog, which for a blog is successful. The viewers won’t get distracted and they can see your work clearly. Alex Noriega specializes in illustration so there isn’t a range of other processes and materials. In my blog I will have a range of mixed media.

The second blog that caught my eye was ‘Diana Mulder’s art blog’. Diana is a mixed media artist. The reason why she caught my eye was because when I first took a look at her artwork it was quite detailed and looked quite big and when I found out they were only a few inches small I was amazed. Diana works on a small scale and paints portraits and landscapes and they are very lovely. Another thing I noticed instantly was her banner. She has three of the same paintings different angles and sizes. They stand out and are eye grabbing. She also has her signature as the title which makes it very personal and she also has a little quote saying “Capturing moments of life’s journey” which is adorable. She combines her art work with her writing, text and a quote which makes it visually interesting to look at. Her layout is very basic just a blue and white background and her images laid out bellow each other which their information. If you have busy images it is best to have a simple background so it doesn’t look so muddled and hectic.

The final blog which I found was ‘Joanne Mattera’s Art Blog. Joanne Mattera is a mixed media artist. Her layout on her blog was pretty basic and clean, just a plain white background with neutral colours for her text and on her banner. But it didn’t need to be bright and attention seeking because her work in the photos did that for her. Her work was interesting because she used a lot of material and colours and it kept you wanting to see more. I want my work in my blog to do the talking for me and I want it to keep the viewer wanting more.
