Inspiration 'Alex Noriega'

I love the pile on of animals :D especially the lion!

I came across this blog which I thought was very awesome. The illustration is simple but great. Its easy to understand and also it can produce very detailed images which we easily decipher.

UCAS update

I have recently sent off my UCAS application. I had only one option and that was the foundation degree by Cardiff Metropolitan University and situated in Bridgend college. I am waiting for a reply :)

Recent Projects

As its a new year I would like to recap what projects I am working on or yet to work on.
On a Monday I have Corrie and I will be working to produce my port-folio. Then on Monday afternoon I will be with Claire and work on getting my life drawing sheets port-folio ready.
On Tuesday morning I will work on producing life drawing prints and in the afternoon I have textiles and will be working on pattern surface.
On Wednesday I have 3D in the morning and in the afternoon I have graphics and I am working on my TATE Gallery project.
On Thursday I will be undertaking a project with lasts every two weeks and working on my port-folio.
And finally on Friday I will be working on my photography project an I will have life drawing classes.

My final products from my homage to books project

 

I created this series of books from the inspiration of Alexander Korzer-Robinson. I bought this trilogy of very old junior world encyclopedias from my local charity shop. I loved the images in this book and to salvage them I decided to remove all the text and leave the images. this created a layered effect. Much like Alexander Korzer-Robinson's work.

 

I decided to call them Pictures tell a story because you can see the heritage or religion or even a certain place, through these images. I think these would work well in a triptych and I would most certainly use them in a sorty of retro way for wall hangings.

Just an image I took whilst I was working with ink I found this made a really nice sample using the light to shine through. It reminds me of stained glass but with text.

Painting with ink onto pages from a book.

 

 I felt this was really lovely, I was painting onto the pages from an old book and I found that the pages became translusent when I used alot of water. I had to take a photo because the way the sunlight shines through it highlights the images/text. I found these worked well but as you know water dries so I think I might try and recreate this with oil and see how that works out.

Plaster mould using books

 

 

 

Firstly I rolled out buff clay about 1cm thick and wide enough to make a wall around to contain the liquid plaster. I picked three books to use to indent into the clay. I used oil to grease up the sides so they wouldn't stick to the clay. I pressed firmly into and evenly in the clay. Now it was time to make the walls around the clay these need to be sturdy and make sure there are no holes so the plaster does not escape through.

 

Next was to mix up a batch of plaster using plaster powder and water, moving very quickly as you go. Make sure you can see the top of the mound so that's how you know you have enough powder next get your hands in and stir removing all lumps. I then poured the plaster in my clay mould. and waited for 20 minutes.

As soon as the plaster had dried completely carefully remove the clay by peeling the clay back. Fire the clay mould to use for later.

After the clay had been fired I used it to make a glass mould. I painted the words "footsteps on broken glass" using luster and then fired it in the kiln.

 

The outcome didn't work as well as I had hoped because the glass didn't fall into the moulds as well but I liked the process and will use it again.
