Portfolio, Interviews and University.

This has been a very busy week for me, on Wednesday the 19th of march I had my first interview of two for the University of south wales for BA hons Art Practice. The interview went well and I felt very comfortable and it was a friendly atmosphere and i'm happy to announce that they had offered me a place. The second interview was on the Friday the 21st of March and it was held with Cardiff Metropolitan university and I was interviewed at the Llandaff campus. I really loved Cardiff I fell in love when I had a presentation and touring the newley built building. When interviewed the feedback was very positive and I was told I was an ideal candidate. I am now waiting to hear from my ucas to see what desicions were made and then I can make a choice.

My portfolio was very successful and I thought I presented my work strongly and with passion. I finished my portfolio on the monday and I just went through and tidyed up where it needed to be.

Shattering Glass

For the word 'Shatter' I wanted to re create the motion ofshattering and the best way to do that was to actually break glass. I used a section of glass from a photoframe and shattered it using a hammer and these are the results. I think the process was successful and the shattered glass looked very good. I took photographs because I could not keep the broken glass. I liked how the word shatter which was printed on card underneath the glass looked warped when the glass shattered on top. I was very happy with the outcome. 

'Abyss' Abstract Canvas

For my final version on Abyss I decided to create an acrylic abstract canvas, I used a mixture of whites, blues, deep purples and blacks. I made a circle in the center and then using a dotted motion I went from white to black, using blue and purple to tone the colours down. I am very pleased with the result.

'Shatter' Photograph With Sections Cut Out

I took one of the photographs I had taken for the word 'Natural' and using a scalpel I removed sections of the photograph to represent the word shatter I cut portions out and tried to imitate the reaction and the development of broken glass shattering. I wanted to create a fore ground being the image and a background where you could see through the shattered section. I think I had to add two grounds to make it more 3D. I am very pleased with this postcard because of how realistic it looks.

Burnt Out Matches Experiment

When I think of burnt out I think of the end process with a match it nearly burnt away burning would be when the flame it still in the process of burning and then the first step would be striking a match. I wanted to create a series/timeline of matches to show the gradual burnt out process, I lit a few matches and let them burn then for a longer amount of time after each match until the last match was fully burnt out. I would blow each match out or place in to a mug of water to stop the burning process. By showing the process from the start you can see from where it all began and where it all ends up. especially when you can't reverse the burnt out process. I think the series of matches shows the perfect definition of burnt out.

Abyss Acrylic Representation

On a piece of acrylic paper I took my three colours which were Black, white and blue and painted and mixed and blended with the end of a paintbrush and my fingers. This is my own representation of the word 'Abyss'. When I think of abyss I picture the bluest depths of the darkest sea. I think my representation shows a mixture of the light, the darkness and the way that I have mixed the acrylics, reflects the texture of the sea with the harsh waves and tidal currents.

Fingerprints On A Candle

I was picking up my candle the other day and the scorch marks from the flame created charcoal dust on the glass container. when I pressed my finger into it it created a very detailed finger print I thought it looked very interesting because not everyday you see your fingerprints on house hold items although you always leave them, you never really see them, so I decided to photograph it and here are the results. what is also interesting is the sections of charcoal residue that is still left.
